PE Sport Funding

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum  to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. As a school we recieved £9050.

Eligible schools

Funding for schools will be calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11), as recorded in the annual schools census in January 2017.

What are we spending our money on?

Primarily we spend the large majority of our money (over £8000) on providing professional development to teachers. This takes the form of a specialist coach who teaches each class throughout the school, while the teacher participates and watches how they teach. We also use part of the money to buy into competitive inter school sports and the following:

  • A leadership programme
  • The co-ordination of a competitive sporting calendar including the School Games pathway L1-3
  • More flexible inter-school competitions including A,B & C teams
  • Opportunities for pupils with additional needs to take part in competitive sport through Project Ability
  • Intensive Swimming Programme
  • Change 4 Life clubs in primary and special school setting
  • NGB linked programmes and clear pathways to local clubs
  • Coachmark
  • School Games Kitemark
  • CPD Programme including SL training, Sport Specific training (x3), SL networking, Inclusion training
  • KS1 BUPA ‘Start to Move’ training & KS2 Matalan ‘Top Sport’ training.
  • Athlete Visits
  • PE Health Checks
  • Pupil Assessment System

The remaining money has enabled us to improve our sports equipment such as large basketball nets, tennis nets, basketballs, football and much, much more.
