I volunteered to become a governor after retiring as a Headteacher and wanting to give back to education, as well as to continue to use my skills and expertise, gathered over many years. The school where I was Head was a two-form entry school with 440 children from reception to Year 6, plus a 100 on roll in the nursey, with 75 children attending, in different groups, each morning or afternoon. It also had a Hearing Support Base to educate up to ten deaf children who were fully integrated into the school. Over the years I undertook school improvement work in other schools and was an Inspector for Ofsted.I now spend my time with my grandchildren, enjoy walking with friends, reading, go to Pilates and Yoga and am a member of the Rotary Club.

Currently I am employed as Learning Manager at the Whitworth, University of Manchester. I care deeply about how arts and culture can support lifelong literacy and how creativity can be used as a tool to inform learning across all curriculum areas.

Declarations of Interest: Head of MFL at Hope Academy, Trustee, Cheshire, Halton and Warrington Race Equality Centre, Parliamentary Candidate, City of Chester - Liberal Democrats

Governance Areas of Responsibility: Curriculum and Assessment

I decided to become a governor at Boughton Heath because I feel it is really important to invest time in our local community.  The young people who come through Boughton Heath Academy will be the custodians of Boughton for future generations.  Being on the governing body at BHA means that we can be part of our future citizen's start, putting children on a socially conscious path so that they can enjoy their future and make good decisions here in Chester or wherever they choose to live.  I am a Head of Department having previously taught in St Helens and Runcorn.  I am a passionate linguist, a committed gym-goer and avid cinephile.  I live in Great Boughton with my partner and my Welsh Springer Spaniel, Tegan.

Term of Office: 15.09.21 - 14.09.25

Declarations of Interest: None

Governance Area of Responsibility: Health and Safety, Governor Training

I was extremely fortunate to attend a fantastic Primary School. It gave me a foundation to be the best possible version of myself. Living locally, BHA reminds me of my Primary School and how fortunate I have been. I grew up in North Tyneside and I have enjoyed living in many parts of England. My spiritual home is the Northwest and I have now lived in Cheshire for over 3 years. For over 10 years I have worked for pladis Global, known for making McVities, Jacobs, Ulker and Godiva Products; specialising in Procurement Governance and Technology. I believe that my professional skills, alongside my keen personal interest will add value to BHA's Pupils, Parents and Staff. I also wish to represent the local community to ensure strong ties between the school and the surrounding area.

Brenda Rewhorn – Co-opted Governor

Governor Area of Responsibility: Curriculum

After retiring as a teacher of mathematics at a comprehensive school in the inner ring of Birmingham and always having an interest in textiles I researched and I have been awarded my PhD on the History of Tatting – an overlooked lace craft. Some six years ago I relocated to Chester as was keen to be part of the local education system and delighted to become a governor of Boughton Heath Academy which was attended my grandchildren.

Tyler McPherson-Hill - Staff Governor

Term of Office: 09.02.22 - 08.02.26

Declarations of Interest: None

I joined Boughton Heath Academy in 2018 as a student teacher and was lucky enough to be offered a teaching post upon completion of my degree. I am currently the Year 3 teacher and have a passion for inclusion within the classroom. I firmly believe that a good education can make a real difference to our children’s lives and their ability to make the most of the opportunities that life presents to them. Additionally, I have a particular interest in attachment disorders and this is something I wish to learn more about and develop a deeper understanding of over the next few years.

I chose to become a governor in order to understand why and how changes are made and to be a part of the school’s ongoing progression. I hope that my input ensures that the children’s needs and education continue to come first, guiding the school into a direction that best suits us whilst making the most of each opportunity.
